On December 17, 2020 the Sanibel Library Board of Commissioners appointed Roy Gibson to fill Seat Seven. Gibson’s term runs through to the next general election.
Gibson is a Southwest Florida native and has been a resident of Sanibel since graduating from the University of Florida with a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning and moving to the Island in 1990 where he started his career as a City Planner for the City of Sanibel.
After 31 years, Gibson recently retired from the City in June 2021 and is now furthering his commitment to community service and his passion for books and libraries by serving on the Library’s Board. Gibson is an avid international traveler and self-proclaimed “travel connoisseur” -- he has traveled to all 50 states and to over 100 countries, loves outdoor adventure and exploration, and has a deep interest in environmental protection and historic preservation.
